A proper layering system is the key to staying dry and warm while riding. Choosing the right layering garments are the first step towards this goal. Cotton based products are absolutely NOT part of a layering system. This includes sweatshirts and denim products. During the activity of snowmobiling you generate moisture (sweat). The harder you ride the more moisture you generate. Cotton products trap this moisture, which in turn transmits cold directly to your body.
-
An effective layering system starts with a base layer which wicks moisture (perspiration) away from your body. In order to work the base layer must be directly against the skin. Our Evaporator gear, made from a wicking quickdry material, is the base layer for the Arctiva system.
-
The second layer in the Arctiva system is the Regulator. Made from a mid-weight fleece, the Regulator provides insulation without unnecessary bulk. When combined with the Evaporator base layer this combination is ideal for riding in moderate to cold temperatures.
-
Should your ride take you into more extreme temperature regions the Arctiva Insulator series will provide the additional level of warmth required. The Insulator gear is made of a heavy weight fleece designed to operate in extremely cold environments. Again, it must be used with a wicking base layer to be effective. We specifically design the Insulator gear to have a "casual" clothing appearance. That way you can remove your jacket and bib when you reach your destination and still have a fashionable looking garment to wear until you are ready to resume your ride.
